INDUSTRY CONTEXT

The famous Old Town Hall was in the process of being transformed from an almost derelict state into an impressive arts and cultural centre that now sits as a jewel in the crown of the Merthyr Tydfil town regeneration programme.

Challenge

As part of the restoration of the Old Town Hall in Merthyr Tydfil, into a modern centre for arts and cultural activities, we were commissioned to develop the brand strategy, naming and brand identity for this historic landmark.

Brand Strategy

From Old Town Hall to Redhouse. Proud of its historical past and excited about its future, the Old Town Hall required a distinct identity that captured the energy of the building.

Identity

Our challenge was to create an identity that was bold, distinct and adaptable. An identity that could inspire. An identity that could ‘fire the imagination’.

Bringing Redhouse to life

Following our work on the initial brand identity, we were then tasked with extending the branding throughout the building. We produced a variety of interior graphics, inspired by the energy and history of Redhouse. We also designed a bespoke signage and wayfinding system that was both functional and sympathetic to the building and it’s internal architecture.

The Heroes & Villains of Redhouse

Within Redhouse is a permanent exhibition that documents important figures from the history of Merthyr Tydfil. We illustrated each ‘Hero and Villain’ in a distinct style, having these displayed throughout the public areas of the building. This display was also supported by printed literature and branded walls within the cafe areas.

The external face of Redhouse

The final component that was required for the launch of Redhouse, was the website. We designed and developed a bilingual website to assist with the promotion of the wide array of events this new arts and cultural centre would offer.

Results

A complete rebrand became a reality in an 18-month project timeframe.A successful opening day with a handshake from The Prince of Wales.
