As an advisory service dedicated to safeguarding communities by the sea, CoastClear needed a brand identity that would not only resonate with its mission but also convey trust, expertise, and a deep connection to the environment.

For the housing association Valleys to Coast, the way that the repairs and maintenance arm operated was broken. The entire process from customer to company was fragmented and frustrating, thus needing a new sister company to adapt to the needs and expectations of its clientele.
The challenge
CoastClear needed a clear and distinctive look and voice to stand out in a market focused on environmental concerns. The challenge was to create a brand that reflected the natural environment and was authoritative enough to instil confidence in their expertise.
Along with creating a brand identity, Coast Clear required a website to be a vital resource hub for homebuyers, homeowners, and conveyancers.
The solution
Following a deep dive into CoastClear’s mission and aspirations with a series of brand workshops, we set to craft an identity that would help position CoastClear as a trusted source of information.
The brand idea
The concept of “empowering coastal communities” became the central theme of CoastClear’s brand. This idea drove the development of a logotype that is more than just a name — it’s a visual story. The bespoke logotype was crafted with letterforms that echo the sweeping lines of the British coastline, while strategic cuts within the letters symbolise the fragile and ever-changing nature of these landscapes. This design approach visually reinforces CoastClear’s role in navigating and mitigating the risks associated with coastal living.
Developing the brand identity
We expanded on the logotype with a rich palette of brand elements inspired by the coastal environment. The textures of coastal rocks, the fluidity of seawater, and the organic forms of driftwood were all integrated into the design, creating a brand texture that is both grounded and dynamic.
The brand colours — drawn from the natural hues of charcoal rocks, cyan waves, stone cliffs, and sand — further emphasised CoastClear’s connection to the environment. These colours were used consistently across all touchpoints, from the website design to printed materials, creating a visual harmony that reflects the brand’s core values.
We also developed the strapline “empowering coastal communities,” which succinctly captures CoastClear’s mission and is a powerful reminder of their commitment to their customers and the environment.
CoastClear’s website serves as a vital resource hub for homebuyers, homeowners and conveyancers. It provides essential information about coastal erosion’s impact on properties and communities.
It also has an interactive postcode checker to assess risk for specific locations, and provides advice for navigating property transactions in erosion-prone areas.
